Hannegan Pass - Level 2

This week's level 2 hike is to Hannegan Pass.  The road condition has been reported to be good, with some potholes.  A forest service pass is needed.  The hike is 8 miles, 2100' el. gain.  We will not attempt the peak on this hike.  The weather should be clear and sunny, or mostly sunny, with temps. around 76, according to reports today.   That means pretty warm, especially since large parts of the trail are in the sun, with some patches of shade.  Be sure to dress to cool down with opportunities to layer up if there are weather changes.  Also remember sunscreen and insect repellent, sunglasses and hats, and plenty of water.  The trail is pretty flat at first, then climbs gently along avalanche slopes coming from the ridge above. The trail steepens for a half mile up to the pass.
